Family: Ericaceae (Heath family)

Mid-Atlantic bloom time: March - May
Mid-Atlantic fruit ripe: September - October

Pink Azalea is one of our early blooming pink to white deciduous azaleas. It prefers mesic to dry acidic forests, seepages, and stream banks. Once fully emerged, the underside of Pink Azalea's leaves are mostly without pubescent undersides (except along their midrib and major veins), unlike the similar Early Azalea (Rhododendron prinophyllum) which has leaves that are densely and softly pubescent underneath.
