Family: Papaveraceae
Mid-Atlantic bloom time: April - June
Field Poppy is often found along roadsides and, as its common name implies, in fields. Its pistil "cap" usually has between 5 - 9 stigmatic lines radiating out from its center. Field Poppy's stems have small appressed (held close to the stems) hairs, a feature that helps distinguish it from Common Poppy (Papaver rhoeas) which has hairs at right angles to the stem.
