Family: Apiaceae (Carrot / Parsley family)
Mid-Atlantic bloom time: June - August
Rattlesnake Master's species epithat yuccifolium comes from its lower leaves resemblance to those of yuccas. Those diagnostic straplike leaves are narrow, 1990 cm long, and have bristles on their edges.
Northern Rattlesnake Master (var. yuccifolium) is the variety found in the Mid-Atlantic area. The Southern variety (var. synchaetum) is more of a southern coastal plain endemic, preferring wet savannahs. The bristles in the Northern variety's are solitary along the lower leaf edges, whereas they are in clusters of 1-3 in the Southern variety.
